MONTEGRAPPA TROPHY 2019 COMPETITION RULES

1. Introduction

The competition “Montegrappa Trophy 2019” is a FAI Category 2 paragliding international event.
The main organizing team is “Aero Club Blue Phoenix” located in Via Palladio 90, Caltrano (VI) – Italy.

 

2. Location

Flight Area: Veneto-Friuli foothills, and North-East Alps (Italy).
Headquarter: PIAZZA PARADISO – 31030 Borso del Grappa(TV) – Italy

 

3. Period

The race will take place from 18th to 22th April, 2019.

 

4. Daily program

Program may change depending on weather conditions or organizational needs. Any changes will be published in the official bulletin board at the headquarter.

5. Validation and rankings

The contest will be valid for the awarding of the title of “Montegrappa Trophy 2019” Champion, provided at least one task is valid.

The following rankings will be composed :

  • OVERALL
  • SERIAL (with at least 10 participants)
  • SPORT (with at least 10 participants)
  • WOMEN (with at least 5 participants)

OVERALL

Reserved to pilots flying certified EN B – EN C – EN D – EN CCC or DHV/LTF 2/ 2-3 paragliders.
If there is a double homologation, the more restrictive one will be considered valid.

SERIAL

Reserved to pilots flying certified EN B – EN C – EN D or DHV/LTF 2/2-3. If there is a double homologation, the more restrictive one will be considered valid.

SPORT

Reserved to pilots flying certified EN B – EN C o DHV/LTF 2. If there is a double homologation, the more restrictive one will be considered valid.

 

6. Participants and selection

The maximum number of participants admitted to the contest is 150 pilots:

  • 130 places will be assigned to pilots, selected according to the FAI ranking WPRO on 8th March, 2019 (*)
  • 10 places are reserved to Women
  • 10 wild cards, assigned by the organization

(*) In compliance with National Sporting Regulation 2016 (app. B.3), about 40% of the available places will be guaranteed to Italian pilots.

Selection will be made following the Italian Overall Ranking on 31st Dicember, 2018.

In case of equal rankings, the first pilot to pre-register will have priority.

Registration of the entries will become effective only after the entry fees payment. Payment has to be done within 7 days of the pilot confirmation date. Confirmation will be sent to the pilots by email and publication in the list of confirmed participants.

The organization riserves the right to accept or not the registration of each pilot. Pilots may be excluded from the contest for safety reasons or in case of inability to verify the pilot compliance of legal obligations.

 

7. Registration

Pre-registrations can be done only through the web site www.airtribune.com , within March, 8th 2019. The list of confirmed pilots will be published on March, 10th 2019.
Only pre-registered pilots will be accepted, and only pilots with a FAI licence valid for the year 2019. A valid third-party Insurance is mandatory.

 

8. Entry fee and payment

The entry fee is € 220.00 and it includes:

  • Transport to take off for all race days
  • Retrieval for all race days
  • Emergency service, ambulance and doctor for all race days
  • Live tracking
  • Packed-lunch for all days of competition
  • 1 Dinner offered by the organization
  • Gadgets
  • Flycard valid for 14 days
  • Awards and Prizes for the winner
  • Entrance to a prize draw for all participants

Paid fees will not be returned for any reason or for any claim.
In case no valid task is disputed, part of the paid fee will be refunded to each registered pilot, with a minimum amount of € 50.00 to a maximum of € 120.00, depending on the costs incurred by the organization.
The entry fee must be paid within 7 days from the confirmation (email), by wire transfer or Pay-pal. An additional fee of €40,00 will be charged in case of delayed payment.

9. Awards and Prizes

Winners must be present at the awards ceremony to collect the prize.

We do not accept proxies. Prizes not claimed will remain at the organization.

 

10. Complaints

Any complaints must be submitted before 9.00 am on the day following publication of the provisional ranking or within 30 minutes of the publication of the final ranking.

A deposit of € 50.00 will be requested from the pilot. If the appeal is rejected, the deposit will not be returned.

 

11. Headquarter and Registration

The headquarter will be set up at Piazza Paradiso – Borso del Grappa (TV), Italy.

The registration fulfillments will happen on 17th April, from 18.00 to 22.00; The opening Briefing will be at the headquarter on Thursday, on 18th April at 8.00.

Mandatory Documents to show for the registration:

  • Flight Licence
  • FAI Licence
  • Receipt of payment of entry fee
  • Insurance (in compliance of FAI rules)

12. Participation requirements

  • Valid pilot license and valid FAI sporting license.
  • Medical insurance covering paragliding (proof will be checked at competition registration).
  • Third party liability insurance covering paragliding (proof will be checked at competition registration).
  • Unmodified and certified helmet (EN 966), harness (EN 1651), paraglider (EN 926/2 EN926/1), rescue parachute, LPD/VHF radio & mobile phone.
  • Your glider must have valid proof of airworthiness (valid technical check if gliders is older than 2 years), you need to fly the glider inside certified weight range!
  • Eligibility requirements: Gliders Authorization Form, Pilots License, FAI-Sporting license, Insurance against damage to third parties, Equipment according to Aerobatic annex S7b. For further details, pilots may consult the reference FAI web site:http://www.fai.org/civl-documents
  • Doping: by Italian law anytime you may reckon that there could be doping controls.

 

13. GPS, Software and Scoring

The rankings will be compiled by the FS scoring program (fs.fai.org), using the CIVL scoring formula GAP2018.
The GPS must record both the barometric and GPS flight altitude.
Tracklogs will be directly downloaded from Livetracking logs. Other devices may be used as backup.
The organization will provide cables for Flymaster, Brauniger (Compeo, Compeo +), Compass, Garmin and Digifly.

If you use a different GPS you will need to provide a suitable cable.
The MapDatum will be WGS84 and the waypoints will be in UTM format.

 

14. Live Tracking

The organization of Montegrappa Trophy 2019 will provide to all pilots an equipment for the Live Tracking (LTD: device for real time tracking) to be used in each task. These devices will be used to increase safety, achieve significant media impact and to improve the recovery services for pilots.
The devices will be also used as primary source for scoring.
Pilots will receive their LTD, turned on, every morning, as they register for flying. They have to keep it with them during the flight, always turned on, and they will give back it at the head-quarter, during the report back and GPS track download.
The organization will be responsible for charging all LTDs and deliver them to the pilots every flying day.
The pilots, after receving their LTD will be responsible for its proper use and maintenance of it, making sure it is turned on during the flight and returning it to the organization at the end of each task.
Instructions on the use of the devices will be given during the briefing.
In case of loss or damage of the LTD, the full compensation of damages, amounting to € 200.00 will be demanded from the pilot.

16.Penalties imposed by the Meet Director.

In accordance with the “FAI Sporting Code, Section 7A Class 0, Cross Country Hang Gliders and Paragliders Classes 1 to 5, 2018 Edition”, the following penalties will apply:
– Pilots flying closer than 100 m vertically (FL85 = 2590 m asl) or horizontally to the forbidden airspace, will be indicated in the ranking of each task, but without scoring penalty.
– For violation of the vertical airspace (FL85 = 2590 m asl) or horizontal, a penalty of 3% on the score of the day will be assigned for each meter within the forbidden airspace.
– Over 30 m of violation of prohibited airspace, the score of the day will be 0.

Liability

The participation in this competition is at own risk of each pilot. The organizer takes no responsibility for pilots or any other third parties. Any transfer to take off and retrieval shuttle service are at own risk of pilots.
It is the responsibility of each competing pilot to ensure that he has valid insurance cover public liability risk, personal accident/hospitalsiation/repatriation.
